Streetscapes
The Streetscapes Committee
The Streetscapes Committee, chaired by Doris Kessler (doriskessler@me.com), has a broad interest in planting street trees and caring for West Mt. Airy's natural environment.Take some time out from your own spring chores to join neighbors in tending to the community’s common spaces. The WMAN Streetscapes Committee is organizing several workdays and needs volunteers.
Sunday, March 25th from 9 - 12: Friends of Allen Lane Station worked from 9 - 12 Sunday, March 25, to pull weeds and spread mulch. Hal Rosner and his crew of Shechtman Tree Care trimmed and pruned the pin oat in the driveway circle and donated their services - It was the wood chips from their pruning that provided the mulch.
Thursday, April 5th: The Streetscapes Committee members and Tree Tender trained volunteers will be checking on the condition of street trees the committee has planted in connection with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Bare Root Street Tree Planting Program. Some light pruning and removal of support lashing is expected. The work will be supervised by experienced professionals.
Saturday, April 21st at 9:00: The Streetscapes Committee will be holding its 10th bare root street tree planting sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Trained Tree Tenders and other landscape professionals will lead volunteers in planting trees along Mt. Airy’s streets. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.
